Piezo sensor

A device that uses the piezoelectric effect to measure changes in pressure, acceleration, temperature or force.

Piezoelectricity is the charge that accumulates in a solid material (often ceramic) in response to applied mechanical strain. Piezo sensor converts then pressure, acceleration, temperature or force to electricity (voltage).

This slides presentation gives you more information about what a piezo is.

If you want to investigate more about piezo mechanisms for motion control, check out this video.

Finally, learn how to connect your piezo to your arduino here.

NB: the prefix piezo- is Greek for "press" or "squeeze".
